Day 1.

Day 1 was great. The girls were awesome! We spent 12 hours in the car, 782.8 miles from St. Augustine to Evansville, Indiana. We detoured (kinda) on purpose to stop and visit with someone Handome has known for 10+ years, but hasn’t met face to face. One of those Internet forum friend things. She was so super sweet, and took us to a local restaurant called the Gerst Haus. They have $3 pints on Tuesdays…Win! And they have a pretzel (that’s not on the menu..it’s a local secret) that is bigger than the plate! It’s served with what they call “Munich cheese” which is a sausage and cheese dip. Handsome had the fried pork tenderloin sandwich, which I learned it’s the 3rd thing Indiana is know for, shortly following basketball and corn. I had the fried catfish sandwich. Gluten belly today, but so worth it! Mel’s Company recently finished the job of vintage style painting with gold leaf the lettering of the restaurant. They did a gorgeous job! It was apparently a hardware store for around 100 years, and a lot of the original structure was left in tact. Super cool place. Check it out if your ever in Evansville, for sure. Thank you Mel for the hospitality!

Today we drive through the southern part of Illinois, into Missouri along the Mississippi River, into Iowa to see Grandma!
